Jeep Scrambler EV Conversion - 1982 CJ-8

Electric motor increases horsepower and torque

Hey everyone! The CJ-8 Jeep Scrambler is a relatively rare model with a production run from 1981 - 1986. Usually equipped with a big V6, this particular one has a high torque Electric GT EV Conversion system which more than doubles the stock HP and more than doubles the torque. I met with the owner Carter during the 2023 State Of Charge Conference to talk about this beautiful build.

The journey started with a barn find

Carter searched for a long time for the right car to start this build, and it ended up being an honest and actual barn find from a farmer in Colorado. The body was in good shape since it had been kept indoors and was protected with some heavy duty paint. That is where the restoration started and it ended with brand new paint, fully rebuilt and upgraded suspension, and the addition of an electric drivetrain.

A video walkthrough

Join Carter and I as we take a deep dive on this CJ-8 Jeep Scrambler and look at how it was restored and made better than brand new.
